Gryphon’s features grew out of the real-world needs of a college daily newsroom. The list below isn’t close to exhaustive, but we’ve highlighted some of the functionality that sets Gryphon apart from other platforms. If you would like a firsthand look at Gryphon’s interface, please contact us to schedule a demo.

CORE FEATURES
- Batch upload articles and media
If you have ever faced a deadline, Gryphon’s batch uploading capabilities are for you. Upload your media (almost any kind) and articles (Gryphon accepts text files in a wide range of formats) over an FTP connection, click a button in the administrative interface, and watch an entire edition’s worth of content appear almost instantly.
- Advanced multimedia support
Gryphon offers native support for images, video, audio, SoundSlides audio slideshows, and other common formats. Virtually any type of multimedia content can be added effortlessly, without copy/pasting clumsy embed code. Media files are stored in a central library — always accessible, ready to be attached to any article, page or blog entry within seconds. Using Gryphon’s built-in media browser, add images and multimedia content to articles with point-and-click simplicity.
- Mobile interface
Dedicated mobile templates allow you to serve up a version of your site optimized for viewing on iPhones and other mobile devices. Device detection is automatic, so users visiting your Web site from their mobile will see the correct version instantly — no input or special URLs required. And as with your main site the mobile site’s design is completely customizable.
- Fotobroker integration
Gryphon’s tight integration with our Fotobroker reprint sales software eliminates duplicate uploads. Upload your images once — Gryphon pushes them to your Fotobroker site automatically upon publication. Of course, you retain total control over which images are offered for reprint sales. Exclude any image by setting a simple flag. Automatic, direct linking from images and galleries on your editorial site facilitates a fast, simple order process.
- Syndication features
Gryphon’s robust RSS engine generates feeds from just about anything — automatically. Getting an RSS feed from any section, blog, or even article (every article on your site can generate its own comment feed) is as simple as adding “.xml” to the end of the URL. If that’s not enough, the (included) Feeder plugin allows you to create custom feeds and podcasts based on any combination of tags.
- Image galleries
Creating photo galleries is a snap with Gryphon. On the back end, assemble images into galleries by pointing and clicking thumbnails in the integrated media browser. Reorder images in a gallery using drag-and-drop functionality. On the front end, our open-ended templating allows you to display galleries virtually however you choose — using any HTML-, Javascript-, or Flash/xml-based gallery solution.
- Blogs
Gryphon’s blogging module includes everything you need to create and manage any number of blogs, and it shares the same extensive multimedia support contained in the article module.
- Powerful anti-spam features
Built-in Turing challenges dramatically reduce comment and form spam. Visitors can flag comments for moderation, sending site administrators an automated notice. Administrators can easily remove objectionable comments or ban commenters by IP address. Comments can be enabled or disabled on a per-article basis.
- Performance caching
Intelligent caching reduces the frequency of database queries, dramatically improving performance on high-traffic sites.
- Group-based permissions structure
Create any number of users and groups, and restrict access to specific areas of Gryphon’s interface based on group membership. Group permissions are completely customizable, so you can create access levels that fit your staff’s existing workflow.
- Unpublished content preview
Users logged in to Gryphon can preview unpublished content in the exact context in which it will appear to the public. Easily review the look and formatting of your content before it goes live.
- Autofill for authors and tags
Type the first few letters of any author or tag name and Gryphon presents suggestions based on previously-entered values, saving you time and helping to avoid duplication.
- Site search
All content is fully indexed and searchable using Gryphon’s powerful internal search controller.
- URL forwarding
Gryphon’s URL forwarding feature allows you to create easy-to-remember URLs for special sections and other specific pages within your site (or even elsewhere on the Web). Ever had to include a long, complicated URL in a print-edition refer? We hate that, too.
- Search engine friendly
With standards-compliant code, clean, semantic URL structures, logical site organization, and the ability to add meta keywords on a per-article basis, our Gryphon-powered sites are accessible and friendly to humans and robots alike.
- Special character support and enhanced typography
UTF-8 encoding allows you to paste text directly from applications like Microsoft Word without worrying about garbled characters. Gryphon also supports accented characters and automatically converts plain text for enhanced typographic features, including true quotation marks, apostrophes, em dashes, and ellipses.
INCLUDED PLUGINS
- Classifieds
Our suite of Gryphon plugins already includes support for classified ad exports from several major software providers, allowing you to easily import ads and even edit and manage them within Gryphon’s administrative interface.
- Google Calendar
Manage your site’s event calendar listings using Google Calendar’s familiar and proven interface. Gryphon pulls your events from Google Calendar into its own database, so the display is completely integrated with your site’s design — no “embedded calendars” or Google branding. Readers can submit event listings (held for approval by your staff) using a form on your site.
- Pollster
Create online polls quickly and easily with Pollster. Display results in a dynamic, animated pie chart.
- Feeder
Create custom RSS2, ATOM, and Podcast feeds from articles and media, based on tags.
- Twittertron
Automatically send customized article feeds to your Twitter account. Tag-based feed generation allows you explicit control over which articles are tweeted. In addition to tweeting your latest headlines, use Twittertron to directly compose and post or schedule tweets right inside Gryphon.
- Facebook Connect
Integrate Gryphon’s commenting system with Facebook.
