Fall checklist for a Fotobroker tune up

Fall is the best season for reprint revenues for most Fotobroker users, and back-to-school will soon kick off a long chain of newsworthy events. With that in mind, here’s a checklist to help you give your reprint site a tune-up in advance.

1. Are you getting the mail?
Someone on your staff should be getting, via email: import reports, sales receipts and customer feedback, often in the form of requests. If no one is getting the mail, please drop us a line with the new addresses and we’ll make corrections. If your point person for talking to us has moved on, please fill us in. You can designate as many email recipients as you need.

2. Regular uploads and good captions are the biggest factors in strong reprint sales.
A little emphasis to your photo crew about the importance of these factors can go a long way. If your last upload wasn’t today or yesterday, you may not be making as much money as you could. Similarly, photos without captions are harder for customers to find, as there’s less data to search through on their behalf. Better captions = more sales. Frequent uploads = more sales. Don’t forget to add the images from your online photo galleries!

3. Linking, Marketing and Advertising are necessary to get the word out.
They’re required by the terms of service, too, of course, but the simple fact is that if no one knows you have a site, you won’t sell many reprints. These topics are frequently discussed on this blog, if you’re looking for ideas. Or start a discussion yourself in our new Google Group. In the meantime, make sure your readers know you offer reprints. A link under every photo gallery – or every photo – is a good place to start!

4. Fotobroker can do more than just photo reprints. Have you considered expanding your offerings to include PDF page reprints (which are printed on glossy photo paper, and are really nice) – or digital files (e-delivered via email or download). Digital sales are not for everyone, perhaps, but recent experience shows demand for electronic versions is rising sharply, and we’ve already seen a few sites that are getting as much as a quarter of their revenue from sales of their digital files.
