Gryphon’s flexible templating system allows customers who select our custom install option to create an entirely custom design for their news site. This page lists the templates used on Gryphon-powered sites (along with links to examples on our demo site), and can serve as a guide to designers.

MAIN TEMPLATES

Homepage – Typically, the homepage aggregates the freshest content from all the various sections of the Web site. The behavior is similar to a section page, in that the homepage displays a specified number of top stories, ordered by weight and creation date. Additional “modules” displayed on the homepage often include:

  • Top stories from each section
  • Photo galleries
  • Multimedia/video player
  • Popular stories/recent comments/blog posts
  • Upcoming calendar events
  • Print edition front page thumbnail/download link
  • Promo ads for special features or coverage
  • Featured classifieds
  • Other Web ads

Article – Individual article page. Should include comments, comment submission form, images (horizontal and vertical, if different) with captions, other multimedia items (video, audio, soundslides), infobox, and links to up to five related articles.

Multimedia items within the article template can be either thumbnails/descriptions with a link to the item’s page in the multimedia section, or directly embedded within the article page.

Multiple article templates can be created to allow for several article display styles. When creating articles in Gryphon, a user can select the Default template, or any of the available alternate templates.

Section – Section pages display a specific number of articles (the number can be specified on a per-section basis from Gryphon’s admin area), ordered according to article weight and creation date. In addition to articles, section pages can also other content types, like blog entries and multimedia items, associated with the section using tags.

Multimedia – In Gryphon, multimedia items have their own dedicated section. The multimedia template should include one “top” item (with conditional displays for each multimedia content type, including video, audio, soundslide, Flash graphic, and image), and a list of thumbnails or links to additional multimedia items.

The display of thumbnail items can also be conditional, according to the content type of the item.

The multimedia section is paged, so users can click back through older items.

Gallery Landing – The Gallery Landing page should include thumbnails or links to image galleries, and may or may not include one large “top” gallery item. Image galleries can utilize any Javascript- or HTML-based gallery display solution.

The gallery section is paged, so users can click back through older galleries.
