The Gallery Manager allows you to create and manage galleries of images for display on the public side of your Fotobroker site. Grouping similar images (images from a single news or sporting event, or that share a common theme, for example) into galleries can help users find all available images surrounding an event or topic of interest in one location. Additionally, galleries allow you finer control over the images displayed most prominently on your site’s homepage.
Here are a few examples of Fotobroker sites that display galleries on their homepages:
Iowa State Daily Photographic Reprints
Mark S. Carlson, Naturalist Photographer
Erik Holladay Reprints
If you are using galleries for the first time, the feature will need to be activated in your site’s templates before galleries will be displayed on your site’s homepage. Contact us to have galleries turned on.
- When signed in to your Fotobroker site as an administrative user, click the “Galleries” link in the Fotobroker Admin toolbar to launch the Gallery Manager.
Click “New” in the Gallery Manager toolbar to create a new gallery. Galleries are based on image metadata. The first step in creating a new gallery is to enter the criteria that will determine which images are included. Fill out any combination of the search fields to make your gallery as specific or broad as you wish. Keep in mind the gallery will only include images matching all of the criteria entered.
- After entering the gallery search criteria, click the button labeled “Next ยป Gallery Details.”
Enter a title and description for your gallery. Use the “Gallery Type” selector to flag the gallery as “Featured” if you wish to make it the dominant gallery on your site’s homepage. Below the gallery details form, you should see a sample list of images that will be included in the gallery. (If no images are displayed, your gallery search criteria may be too specific). Click the thumbnail of an image in the list to set the gallery’s preview image.
- Click the “Save Gallery” button to save your changes. The gallery is now live.
Click “List” in the Gallery Manager toolbar at any time to return to the gallery list view. You can modify or delete existing galleries from this page.
